Emerging from the heart of Uganda’s Batwa community,
the Batwa Indigenous Development Organisation
began its journey on January 16th, 2015.
What started as a grassroots effort to address the pressing issue
of post-secondary school dropouts among Batwa students
has blossomed into a beacon of hope and resilience.
With unwavering dedication, BIDO transitioned
from a community-based organization to an officially recognized
non-governmental organization
on April 29th, 2022, under the auspices
of the Uganda
Registration Services Bureau in Uganda.
At the core of BIDO’s ethos lies a profound commitment
to empowering vulnerable Batwa communities.
We envision a future where the Batwa People stand tall,
their cultural heritage celebrated, their voices heard,
and their rights upheld.
We strive to break down barriers to integration,
enabling Batwa to flourish in every aspect of life.
By fostering resilience, self-sufficiency, and unity,
we pave the way for a brighter future
where Batwa communities thrive and prosper.

From establishing cultural centers
to developing agroecology,
advancing education and healthcare,
and safeguarding human rights,
each initiative is imbued with the spirit
of resilience and determination,
aiming to empower the Batwa community
to thrive and flourish.
